Reflection 261
Welcome!
God’s Love Saves The WorldOne thinks of the horrors of the world, the cruelty, the things one can see absolutely no good in at all. One thinks of the concentration camps of Hitler, one thinks of cruelty to children and animals, one thinks of the people who from the start have ghastly handicaps and trouble of every kind, mental and physical – one thinks of all this, and one’s heart bleeds for such people. Or one thinks of people who at the end are just rubbed out by society because they are so wicked. Think of someone like the Yorkshire Ripper going to prison. I am he. He didn’t choose to be the Yorkshire Ripper. The agony of that man when he reflects on what he means to his fellows. How can that be all right? It can be all right by my being him. I can save the situation – not Douglas but Who I really am can somehow get behind and be him. And this is what is meant by God’s love saving the world. (Douglas Harding.
