Non-Mystical

When the penny dropped for me sixty years ago, it was not euphoria at all. It was the certainty that my life was going to be about This. It was very, very cool. It was not ecstatic. It was actual factual. This was good because if it had been a huge mystical experience, it might have been a trap. Pascal, who wrote down his wonderful mystical experience on a scrap of parchment and sewed it into his jacket, never had the experience again. It became archaeology. (Douglas Harding.
